Aleander Santos | Editor-in-Chief
Aleander Santos (he/him) is the editor-in-chief of REFRACT. Aleander is an undergraduate student at Baruch College, studying both political science and journalism with a specialization in creative writing. Aleander first joined REFRACT’s editorial board as a copyeditor in the fall of 2022, later becoming the editor-in-chief in the spring of 2024. Aleander enjoys studying political theory, receiving prints of literary magazines in the mail, reading flash fiction/Twitterature, and watching professional wrestling. An avid melophile, Aleander enjoys listening to the Grateful Dead, music from the Greenwich Village folk scene of the ‘60s, and—if in the right mood—punk rock. After Baruch, Aleander plans on applying to a fully paid MFA program where he aims to study creative nonfiction.
Katerina Ventouratos | Copy Chief
Katerina Ventouratos is the copy chief for REFRACT. Katerina is majoring in English literature and minoring in Japanese at Baruch College. She joined REFRACT to hone her copyediting and editing skills with the hope of a future in the literary field.
Navipa Zaman | Social Media Editor
Navipa Zaman (she/her) is REFRACT's social media manager. Navipa is studying political science and corporate communications at Baruch College. She enjoys reading novels at breakneck pace and running until her lungs give out. Navipa's favorite color is blue, she is a self-taught guitar player, and she is currently rewatching Criminal Minds for the fifth time. After Baruch, she plans on attending law school somewhere far, far away from New York City.
Ariana Purisic | Marketing Director
Ariana Purisic is the marketing director for REFRACT. She is currently an undergraduate English major and double minoring in political science and history at Baruch College. During her free time, she enjoys listening to eclectic genres of music, trying different foods, reading, writing, learning philosophy and psychoanalysis, practicing autodidactism, watching reality TV and film noirs, painting and pastel drawing, and playing badminton. She is also continuing on her excursion as a freelance writer for the Ticker and plans to pursue a career in the journalism and education field.
Rodrigo Buendia | Editorial Board
Skylar Cronick | Editorial Board
Skylar Cronick is an undergraduate student at Baruch College studying for an intended major in public affairs with a minor in journalism. Skylar enjoys critical thinking games, casually scrolling on TikTok, research-based writing, and watching mysterious or thrilling movies. Skylar likes to listen to R&B, rap, and pop music, whether while lifting weights at the gym or busting a move on the dance floor. After Baruch, Skylar hopes to work in either writing or politics and publish her own book one day.
Moxxy Gutierrez | Editorial Board
Moxxy Gutierrez is an undergraduate student at Baruch College. As they aspire to explore the principles of consumerism through their marketing major, they pay homage to the arts. The arts are Moxxy’s driving force; an infinite source of passion and inspiration. They are infatuated with visual kei and minimalist fonts. Moxxy’s ideal weekend comes with bumping experimental queer pop, eating mango sorbet, sketching poster designs and video editing. After Baruch, Moxxy hopes to go to graduate school and sell their nerdy trinkets in local art markets.
Camilo Mason | Editorial Board
Camilo Mason is a student at Baruch College studying for a business degree in computer information systems and minoring in mathematics. He's always been a sucker for data and statistics, but in his free time, he loves to cook and watch baseball with his girlfriend. He joined REFRACT's editorial board to catch a break from the torrent of numbers and memorization that compose his degree. After Baruch, Camilo has no immediate plans to leave the city he was born in, where he hopes to find a job in analytics.
Evelyn Mercado Sosa | Editorial Board
Evelyn Mercado Sosa is an undergraduate student at Baruch College majoring in accounting with a double minor in Japanese and English. I was lucky enough to have studied in Japan for the fall 2023 semester through the Baruch-Waseda Exchange. I’m usually at work or at school; when I’m not, you’ll probably find me knitting little stuffed frogs, watching a movie, reading books and manga, and bouldering. I’ve always had a love for reading and writing; my major has not allowed me to explore this interest as deeply as I wish I could and I hope REFRACT gives me the space to do so. Studying in Japan has given rise to a love of international relations and I hope to study international tax in the future.
Jon Sosa | Editorial Board
Jon Sosa is an undergraduate student at Baruch College majoring in journalism with a minor in political science. Sosa holds an associate degree in journalism from Kingsborough Community College, where he was a staff writer for the Scepter student newspaper. Currently, Sosa is a media journalist intern at AMNY, Brooklyn Paper, and contributing writer for Baruch’s newspaper, The Ticker. He enjoys taking street photographs and eating Takis.
Margaret Wong | Editorial Board
Margaret Wong is an undergraduate English major at Baruch College, with plans to minor in computer science. While she’s still undecided about this course, she enjoys reading and writing, so she hopes to learn more about the editing and writing process as a part of REFRACT.
Kethlyn Young | Editorial Board
Kethlyn Young is an undergraduate student at Baruch College, majoring in psychology with plans to minor in journalism. She has a strong passion for the arts and is always eager to explore new projects. In her spare time, Kethlyn enjoys writing, listening to music, and watching movies—despite how terrible they are. She especially loves connecting with others. By joining REFRACT, Kethlyn aims to gain editing experience and enhance her writing skills, bringing her closer to her dream of publishing her own magazine someday.
